Grown: California, Italy, Spain and Greece.

Style: Delicate yet distinctive flavour.

Harvested: Once a year in September from low bushes.

Imported: With or without shells and skin.

Uses: Baking and cereal manufacture.

Walnuts

Grown: China, India, California and France.

Style: Strong and slightly bitter in taste.

Harvested: From trees during Spring or September.

Imported: After being picked, dried, shelled and cleaned.

Uses: Baking, confectionery, snacks and salads.

Pecan Nuts

Grown: South America and South Africa.

Style: Rich and distinctive in flavour and texture.

Harvested: A sweet nut picked from orchard sized trees November - January.

Imported: After being picked, cleaned, put in cold storage then shelled.

Hazelnuts

Grown: Turkey and Italy.

Harvested: From small hillside stocky trees in early September.

Grown: Brazil, India and Vietnam.

Harvested: From a pod at the base of the fruit of the cashew tree.

Imported: In different grades from whole nuts to small pieces.

Brazil Nuts

Grown: Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.

Style: Large robust nut with strong flavour.

Harvested: Annually from large trees in South American jungles.

Imported: Without shells after being heated and hand-shelled.

Grown: California and Iran.
